Fifty-five years ago, residents in San Diego occupied a site under the Coronado Bridge to create Chicano Park.

Victor Ochoa, a founding member of the steering committee, recalled the overwhelming community support during the park’s early days.

On one weekend in 1973, he brought 300 brushes for the 300 neighbors who arrived to help paint.

History also celebrates Ulugh Beg, a 14th-century ruler who transformed Central Asia into a global center for mathematics and astronomy.

His 1437 star catalogue remained the most advanced scientific record of its kind for centuries.

Ulugh Beg also calculated the length of the tropical year with incredible precision.

His measurement was even more accurate than the later estimates provided by Copernicus.
