Cat’s Love Story with Neighbor Started with Conversations Through the Window

  • Simon, an orange tabby cat, had no interest in socializing with other cats – but he was smitten when he laid eyes on his neighbor.
  • When Simon’s mom, Mackenzie Coffman, put up a sign on her window to introduce her cat, her neighbors responded and introduced their cat, Theo.
  • The two cats have since become friends on Twitter and met each other after their moms arranged a meet-and-greet.

Simon the cat had always kept to himself.

As a resident of a Los Angeles cat café, Crumbs & Whiskers, the orange tabby could have made lots of friends, but it seemed he had no interest in socializing.

Simon’s mom, Mackenzie Coffman, told The Dodo, “He’s definitely used to other animals, but never really played with the other cats in the café.”

But that was until Simon laid eyes on his neighbor across the street.

Coffman recounted, “I was in bed and I woke up to Simon whining at the window. I looked up and to my surprise saw a cat sitting in my neighbor’s window. I’ve lived in this apartment for two years and have never seen their cat.”

Coffman noticed that the other cat seemed aloof, but “Simon would jump up and down in the windowsill to try to get his attention.”

As this was the first time that Simon showed interest in another cat, Coffman decided to step it up and be her pet’s wingman.

Taking inspiration from Taylor Swift’s music video for “You Belong With Me,” Coffman hung up a sign on her window.

And what do you know, the neighbors responded with their own sign! Simon’s displays of affection had not gone unnoticed.

“They opened the window, introduced themselves, and I told them that Simon always waits for Theo. They said they always see Simon but didn’t know what to call him so they’ve been calling him Chester,” Coffman shared.

Simon’s adoration has grown stronger since the exchange.

Coffman observed that whenever Theo appears, Simon “chirps at the window and paces the windowsill,” but Theo’s attention was still elsewhere.

When Coffman shared Simon’s love story on Twitter, it received over 300,000 likes and over 100,000 retweets! Her post, captioned, “My cat Simon is in LOVE with my neighbor’s cat and waits all day for him. Will keep y’all updated,” had everyone shipping the two cats.

The two cats have since become friends on Twitter after Coffman posted a sign informing Theo of their story’s popularity.

Coffman and her neighbors soon arranged a meet-and-greet for their cats.

After weeks of pining through the windowpane, Simon has finally met his beloved! He just couldn’t contain his excitement:
