Hiker Lost on Arkansas Trail for Nearly a Week Found Alive

  • Joshua McClatchy, a hiker who went missing for six days in the Arkansas wilderness, has been miraculously found alive on Friday.
  • Balduf said that they had last heard from his brother on June 1, when he sent their mother photos of his travels that morning. He texted her again, five hours later, telling her he was lost.

Joshua McClatchy, 38, who went missing for nearly a week after going for a hike at Arkansas’ Buckeye Trail in the Caney Creek Wilderness, has been found alive on Friday.

On Saturday, his sister, Miranda Balduf, shared the emotional moment on Facebook.

“‘We have him.’ These are the most beautiful words I’ve ever heard spoken,” she wrote.

Balduf also thanked Polk County Sheriff Scott Sawyer as well as everyone who helped search for her brother.

“This terrain is unforgiving, and you all were RELENTLESS in your efforts,” Balduf continued. “It was spectacular seeing headlamps approach from the dark distance, and then seeing Josh’s face as the strongest men and women carried him out.”

She added that “Josh is doing beautifully.”

Rescuers were able to locate McClatchy on Friday, with the help of a helicopter. However, the team spent an additional hour to reach him on foot and about four more hours for them to carry the dehydrated McClatchy back to safety.
