  • Connie, 59, was blind for 15 years.
  • In November 2018, she had an eye surgery and now has 20/20 vision!
  • Connie delights even in the smallest of things, like watching “the grass grow,” and she’s never been any happier.

Imagine seeing the world again after 15 years of blindless — it must be surreal.

Connie, 59, had been blind for a decade and a half. It was believed to be glaucoma until an ophthalmologist diagnosed cataract in 2018, a treatable vision issue.

It was in 2003 when Connie started seeing halos and prisms on lights while driving. She was told she had glaucoma and three weeks later, it became worse, until she finally went blind. It was said to be inoperable.

Regardless of her condition, Connie continued living like how she did before her she lost her sight. She continued ice skating, kayaking, camping, attending sports events and concerts, and all the other things she loves doing.

“I was so happy to be in the nosebleeds screaming my lungs out and not seeing anything,” she said. “I just lived life as much as I possibly could the way I did before I lost my sight.”

Connie was adjusting well, but of course, there were things that were difficult to do without her vision.

“I wasn’t really sure to how to use a cane and I would keep walking into bushes,” she said. “I had to have somebody with me when I cooked to make sure the food looked okay. I couldn’t vacuum and had to sweep in a pattern.”

Three years ago, everything changed. She got a right-eye surgery on November 12 and was able to see again!

“When they took my patch off the next day, the first thing I saw was the nurse’s eyebrow, eyelashes, and pupil and I started crying,” Connie said. “She had me read an eye chart and the first line I read was 20/20.

“I had the second eye done and right after Thanksgiving, I was seeing 20/20 out of both eyes,” she added.

Connie was able to see her eldest grandchild for the first time, who “doesn’t look anything like she looked when she was three weeks old,” as well as her other eight grandchildren.

Connie was so delighted to have been able to “watch all the flowers bud and the trees grow leaves” and behold the beauties of nature once again.

“People think it’s tedious to watch grass grow, but when you haven’t seen a blade of grass in years, you watch the grass grow.”

Of all the wonderful things she’s seeing again, her husband remained to be the best. “He’s still the most handsome man ever and I’m still completely in love with him.”

The couple would retake the vacations they had been on when Connie was still blind.

“He took me to the Oregon coast, Yellowstone, and all through the Rockies. Now I just want to go experience it again.”

Well, this time around, she’ll be able to “see” it.
