11-Yr-Old Gives Stray Dogs Baths and Helps Them Get Adopted
- An 11-year-old animal lover from Brazil is spending his free time helping stray dogs get adopted.
- Last year, he started to give stray dogs baths so they would be seen differently by people.
- He would then do photoshoots with the newly bathed dogs to shine attention on them.
Meet Thiago. He’s one certified animal lover. The 11-year-old boy from Brazil wanted to do something to help the stray animals in their country. Since he couldn’t bring all of them home, he decided to help them find their forever homes by making them more presentable. So, he gives them baths during his free time.
At the end of last year, Thiago decided that he had to do something somehow. So he told his dad about his idea to give baths to stray dogs so that they could look more presentable to the people who see them.
So Thiago launched the project “Sou de rua mas to limpinho” (“I’m homeless but I’m clean”) with his father.
They quickly found out that it was not an easy task. Catching stray dogs is difficult, especially since most are victims of abuse who are scared of people.
Thiago’s dad then enlisted help from the NGO Noah’s Ark so they can start bathing their newly rescued dogs.
Thiago would then do a photoshoot with the newly bathed dogs to shine a light on them on social media.
Thiago has since given baths to 48 dogs. His community also gave their support and donated pet shampoo and bath products.
Thiago shared, “The project has really borne fruit, because most of the furry ones are adopted. This gives a lot of motivation to continue.”

Thiago hopes that more people will think kindly of the homeless animals they see every day. He hopes that his efforts will encourage more people to take a chance on them and open their homes to them.
“[I want] people to be not afraid to adopt. It’s the best thing in the world,” Thiago said.
“But let them adopt the dog knowing it’s not a thing or a toy,” he advised. “He is a being who will live a long time and who just wants to give us love.”
Thiago added that people who can’t adopt a dog can still help in other ways, such as volunteering, donating, or putting out bowls of food and water for them.
