Eighteen-year-old Teo Jordan of Covington, Kentucky believes “we should always give help to people who need it.”

While working as a bagger at a local Kroger to help support his family, Teo saw an elderly man in his checkout lane who didn’t have enough cash to pay for all his groceries.

Teo has been working at the store for just a few weeks and has been saving some of his earnings for a car. But when the high school senior saw the elderly customer, he didn’t hesitate to help. He paid the difference.

Brian McCarty, also a Kroger customer, saw what happened and thought the teenager needs to be recognized for his gesture. He shared the story in a viral Facebook post.

The story was picked up by a news station. It covered the inspiring story and surprised Teo with a $1,000 scholarship for college.

For Teo, he was simply looking out for the man.

“I saw that he didn’t have the money for all the groceries that he wanted,” he explained. “The cashier told him he would have to put some of the things back, so I just thought in my head I would give him this $35 so he could have all the food that he wants.”

On the other hand, his mom, Stephanie Burton, couldn’t be prouder! “I’m overwhelmed with joy,” she said. “You try to instill in your kids right and wrong but you don’t know if they comprehend, so yes I’m very proud.”

While Teo doesn’t want any special attention, he hopes his actions will inspire more people to step up for those in need.

“Just treat people the way you want to be treated (and) always help out if someone needs it,” the teen added.

What an exceptional young man! We hope your kind multiplies. The world needs more people like you.
