  • Mr. Robert Peters has been delivering pizza in the Tipton, Indiana community for more than 31 years.
  • His 28-year-old Oldsmobile is on its last wheel and so a loyal customer urged the community to buy him a new one.
  • The whole community raised more than enough to buy a new car, pay insurance, taxes and gas money.

Being a pizza delivery man might not be a long-term career goal for some, but for Robert Peters of Tipton, Indiana, doing it with a smile is his purpose in life.

Even some members of his family had asked him if he should consider finding something a little more financially stable. But he said trying to make people happy by delivering is his purpose.

And the town of Tipton has benefitted from Mr. Peters service with a smile for the past 30 years.

Synonymous with the service is the 28-year-old Oldsmobile that Mr. Peters has been using to make his deliveries. Tanner Langley, a longtime regular customer of Mr. Peter’s said that whenever anyone sees the car with Mr. Peter on the wheel, they know they are in for a smiling treat. “The town of Tipton calls him ‘Mr. Smiley.’ He’s a very kindhearted individual,” adds Langley.

That is why when Langley knew that the old automobile was on its last wheels, he rallied the community to make sure that Mr. Peters can still deliver his rounds of orders.

Tiptonites rose to the challenge and within three days of Langley’s post on social media, the community was able to raise $19,000!  Their favorite pizza delivery will not just receive a late-model Red Chevy Malibu, but also funds enough to pay taxes, insurance, and other fees. And Mr. Peters would not have to worry about gas money either as there is more than enough left for it.

Mr. Peters can only say that what his loyal customers did was “surreal” and that at the end of the day, he is simply thankful for the gift.

Mr. Peters said, “I just hope that all those who made this happen will be blessed as much as they have blessed me. This has really been an awesome experience that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”

And now, the entire town of Tipton can also be called “Tip Town” for this generous tip to their ever-smiling favorite pizza delivery man, Mr. Peters.
