Adidas has chosen an 85-year-old grandmother from Manchester, England, to be one of the stars of its new running campaign. Barbara Thackray was selected by the brand due to her impressive running achievements, which began eight years ago when she took up the sport to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice.

Thackray’s late sister Audrey was a patient at the hospice, and she wanted to give back by fundraising for the organization. Since then, Thackray has become a dedicated runner who credits the sport with keeping her fit and healthy in her older age.

Thackray recently completed the Run North West Trafford 10k run, where she was the only runner in the 80+ category. In front of 20 family members, she achieved a personal best time of 85 minutes.

When asked about her involvement in the Adidas campaign, Thackray told the BBC that she had “only seen it vaguely”, but was pleased that the company was willing to make a significant donation to St Ann’s Hospice.

Thackray’s inclusion in the Adidas campaign is a heartwarming example of an older person achieving impressive feats through dedication and hard work.

Her passion for running and her desire to give back to her community have inspired many, and her story is a reminder that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing one’s passions.
