Surely when it rains, it pours.

This is the case of Kasen Donerlson, who went through a liver transplant and coronavirus disease infection at such a tender infant age.

No one thought Kasen will make it through, but he miraculously did!

Kasen was born in January 2020, where he spent his first few days in the NICU. Doctors then thought he had jaundice, but it turned out to be so much more.

At just two months old, Kasen was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called biliary atresia, which blocks the pathways from the liver to the gallbladder.

Just when his family thought they had enough problems to deal with, Kasen contracted COVID-19 along with his entire family.

Kasen’s mom Mitayah narrated how stressful the situation was especially in the time of a pandemic. The hospital became their second home for most of the year.

But as they say, all bad things come to an end, too. Kasen was finally able to get a liver donor through the UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When he recovered from the deadly COVID-19, he went through his liver transplant operation. He was 11 months then.

“All I could do was cry. They were mommy tears of joy. I was just so happy,” Mitayah told Good Morning America.

Kasen’s operation lasted for 10 hours, which he survived – again.

According to the doctors, Kasen has reacted well to the surgery despite what he had to go through. He is now on his way to full recovery, calling him a “miracle baby” no doubt.

“His recovery right now is going so sweet and so smooth that I can’t ask for anything more,” Mitayah shared.
