A Wild Ride with Al Pacino Still Stuns Willie Geist

Willie Geist is reflecting on a remarkable decade of the Sunday Sitdown, a journey that began with his first conversation alongside Leslie Odom Jr. in 2016.

With 400 interviews now completed, Geist admits the milestone snuck up on him because he is always focused on preparing for the next show.

Quick Smiles:

  • Willie Geist has interviewed iconic figures ranging from Dolly Parton and Shaq to David Letterman and Tom Hanks.
  • The host once drove a vintage convertible around Beverly Hills for nearly an hour with Al Pacino riding shotgun.
  • David Letterman jokingly roasted Geist by asking about his toupee during a fly-fishing expedition in 2019.

One of the most surreal moments for the host was pulling up to a red light in a classic car and hearing Pacino joke with fans about a fake movie called Willie and Al.

“It was truly, truly out-of-body, surreal to pull up to a red light in Beverly Hills and look over and Al Pacino is riding shotgun and you just say, ‘How did this happen?’”

As the program looks toward the future, Geist still has several bucket-list guests he hopes to interview, including Taylor Swift and Jay Z.

“Then to visit their planet and have them know me a little and spend some time with them, it’s still hard for me to understand how I’ve gotten to this spot.”

Geist expresses deep gratitude for the opportunity to meet childhood heroes who once felt like they lived on a different planet.
