  • Kirk Douglas has died at the age of 103 on February 5th.
  • The golden-hearted philanthropist still continued his charitable works even after his death by donating most of his $61 million fortune to charity.
  • Many people would surely remember him dearly in their lifetime.

Kirk Douglas is a legendary actor best known in the film Spartacus during the Golden Era of Hollywood. He is also known for being a philanthropist with a golden heart. Even after his death on February 5th, he still continued his act of generosity by donating most of his $61 million earnings to charity.

“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” his son Michael—who did not receive any inheritance from his father—wrote. “To the world he was … a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.”

Among the beneficiaries of the donation is St. Lawrence University, which will help fund Kirk Douglas Scholarship for students whose families can barely send them to schools — just like Kirk himself back in the time of the Great Depression in the 1920s and 30s.

“Kirk Douglas has been transcendently generous to St. Lawrence University and remained committed to his alma mater and our students throughout the decades,” said the president of the school.

Other recipients include Westwood’s Sinai Temple, Culver City’s Kirk Douglas Theater, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which had received a large sum of donations from the past — including $2.3 million worth of pediatric division’s equipment.

On his 99th birthday in 2015, the Oscar-winning actor spent $15 million to build the Kirk Douglas Care Pavilion intended to care for about 80 patients from the entertainment industry with Alzheimer’s disease.

His son, Michael Douglas, who is also an actor himself with millions of dollars net worth, said in an announcement, “Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true: ‘Dad- I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son.’”
