Monroe Milstein began Burlington Coat Factory in an old factory in Burlington Township, New Jersey, in 1972. At the time, the business specialized in selling coats, and the name fit perfectly.

Burlington Coat Factory took off and continued opening new stores throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The brand diversified its offerings and, in 2009, decided to rebrand.

They dropped the ‘coat factory’ name and became Burlington Stores. Now, 17 years later, the business continues to thrive, and Burlington has plans to open dozens of new stores in May 2026.

Burlington is Thriving in a Tough Economy

Burlington will open 26 stores across 20 states in May. That means good news for customers who love to save in style.

That is not good news. Burlington here is such a crowed store and it needs better organization, bu maybe that’s all the powers that be in Burlington can think to offer merchandise to the public.
