  • University students Skylar Beavers and Jordynn Jenkins both grew up in single-parent households.
  • Growing up, they remember being sponsored for Christmas, so they made sure to do the same for other kids in single-parent homes.
  • They founded the organization ‘Make a Kid Merry’ to pay it forward and help bring holiday cheer to struggling families.

Skylar and Jordynn were both raised by single mothers. Their childhood motivated them to help other kids growing up in single-parent homes.

Jordynn told WCPO News, “We both had to be sponsored for Christmases before. We just wanted to be able to create a way to give back to our community and just create security for some of these kids who may otherwise not have had Christmas gifts.”

So the two university students founded the organization ‘Make a Kid Merry’ to make sure kids receive their holiday gifts — just like the community did for them all those years ago.

Skylar said, “It’s about just giving back to a cause that is bigger than you, and we’re both really big believers in that.”

This year has been particularly hard for families, so the pair set a goal to deliver gifts to at least 50 kids.

They sent the word out for community donations and enlisted friends and family to help them with their Santa workshop.

Here they are wrapping up the gifts that they collected:

Skylar and Jordynn were inspired by the generosity they received as kids and paid it forward. The dynamic duo is even planning to expand their efforts to include other holidays and important events!
