Cat loves chilling in mom’s potato cabinet [Video]

• Nugget has discovered a strange place to be his den: the potato cabinet.
• His mom had accidentally left the cabinet open, which he took to be an invitation to get in.
• He now considers the potato cabinet as a safe space to go to whenever he wants some peace and quiet.

Cats usually have their favorite spots to hang out in. Some prefer the bed while some are fine with just a cardboard box. Nugget, meanwhile, considers the potato cabinet his safe space.

About nine months ago, Nugget’s mom, Anshu, accidentally left the cabinet open while she was cooking.

“He just jumped to the second shelf, stepped over the six or seven potatoes and made space for himself in the back!” she recalled.

Nugget was abandoned on the street by his previous owners. While he has become attached to his new mom now, he still feels anxious from time to time. So his potato cabinet has become a safe space for him to go to whenever he feels shy or scared.

Anshu shared, “I think he likes it so much because of the earthy smell and it being so peaceful. It’s dark inside, so he probably feels very cozy in there, where he can safely look on at the outside world.”

“He doesn’t do much in there — just loafs and purrs. He actually seems to like it even more when we have more potatoes,” she added.

Nugget isn’t interested in eating any food that’s in the cabinet, he just likes sitting there peacefully.

Anshu shared that it has become their new kitchen routine. Every time she goes to the kitchen, Nugget is right behind her, so she opens the cabinet for him.

“Nugget is the most loving cat ever. He loves cuddling and will snuggle up to you anytime he gets the chance,” Anshu added.
