Cats’ First Fall Leaf Adventure Will Make You Smile
Quick Smiles:
- A pair of indoor cats experience the joy of fall leaves for the first time.
- Their owner’s thoughtful gesture has gone viral with over 6.5 million views.
- Viewers are loving the playful interaction and the creative idea.
In a delightful moment of feline fun, two indoor cats, Toodle and Fran, got a taste of autumn’s magic thanks to their thoughtful owners. Kelsey Geer, a schoolteacher from Massachusetts, and her boyfriend, Zach Laverty, brought the beauty of fall indoors with a simple yet charming gesture—a box filled with crunchy leaves.
As Geer and Laverty prepare to welcome their first child, they have been focused on making their pets feel cherished during this transitional time.
“We’re expecting a baby soon, and know it’ll be a big adjustment for our fur babies, so we’ve been really focused on making these next few weeks [and] months centered around making them feel loved,” Geer shared.
In a video that captured the hearts of many, Laverty is seen introducing Toodle and Fran to their first encounter with autumn leaves. The clip, posted on October 30, has become a viral sensation, amassing an impressive 6.5 million views and over 600,000 likes.
The video shows Laverty bringing a box of vibrant yellow, red, and brown leaves into the house and setting it gently on the floor. The curious cats quickly investigate, sniffing and even nibbling on the leaves.
Laverty then tosses the leaves into the air, sparking a playful reaction from the cats, who joyfully leap and pounce. One of the cats even climbs into the box, fully embracing the autumnal experience.
TikTok users were charmed by the scene, with one commenter humorously noting, “My cats would have immediately peed in the crunchy new litter box.”
Another viewer appreciated the visual appeal, stating, “That was such an aesthetic pile of leaves,” while a fellow cat owner was inspired to recreate the experience, saying they had “just added this to my to-do list tomorrow.”
The video also sparked a conversation about whether cats should be allowed outdoors. Geer explained that their decision to keep Toodle and Fran indoors is due to their proximity to a highway and major intersection.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) advises that cats be kept indoors in the U.S., as outdoor cats face numerous risks, including traffic, fights, and predators. Indoor cats, like Toodle and Fran, enjoy a safer environment and often live longer lives.
Toodle and Fran love watching the world from their windows, especially the movement of leaves and critters. Geer expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response to their video:
“Since they both bring us so much happiness every single day, we’re happy that others are able to experience them too.”
