Cat’s Sad Face And Unusual Eyes Make Him A Popular Choice For Adoption

  • Ben Franklin is a cross-eyed cat with a sad-looking face that went to live at the Animal Welfare Society when his owner died.
  • It took time for him to warm up to shelter staff but they have loved him since Day 1.
  • Shelter staff are hoping that he gets adopted to a loving and understanding home where he can thrive after a period of adjustment.

When his owner passed away, Ben Franklin went to live at the Animal Welfare Society in New Milford, Connecticut.  Having been treated like a child and showered with love, Ben needed time to adjust to life at the shelter and living with other animals.  But shelter staff warmly welcomed him with his unusual eyes and perpetual sad look on his face.

A staff member at the shelter named Crystal said, “We noticed his crossed eyes right away and thought they were so cute. Ben has seen our vet, and there was no concern about his eyes.”

Ben’s eyes also made him a favorite among potential adopters the moment that they see his sweet face.  He is just so adorable.

But Ben has been holding out on showing his love to other people.  He’s been a little standoffish. And this makes the prospective adopters get turned off when he refuses to cuddle or behave the way that they want him to.  It has been a year since he’s been at the shelter.

Crystal said that an ideal home for Ben would be quiet and with someone who would be patient and understanding with him.  “He would be okay with another easygoing cat that will respect his space and not want to play, but would prefer a home without dogs or small children. Even though Benjamin requires a special home, we know there is someone out there for him!”, she added.

Aside from letting him adjust to his new life, Ben does need a family that would also keep him on his special medicated diet.  For now, shelter staff are giving him all the love and care and hope that in time, he gets to be adopted into his forever home.

We wish you all the best, Ben!
