A spirited female cheetah named Jwala in Madhya Pradesh has given birth to five healthy cubs, her third litter since arriving.

This joyful event boosts India’s cheetah revival, reintroduced in 2022 from Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa to Kuno National Park.

India’s Minister for the Environment shared the great news on X.

“The number of Indian-born thriving cubs has risen to 33, marking the 10th successful cheetah litter on Indian soil.”

Now 53 cheetahs roam wild and semi-wild habitats in Kuno and Gandhi Sagar, with 11 originals and 33 homegrown cubs nearing maturity.

“This achievement reflects the dedicated efforts, skill, and commitment of the veterinarians, field staff and all involved who continue to work tirelessly on the ground,” said Minister Bhupender Yadav.

Just weeks earlier, Gamini delivered three cubs, her second litter.

“A moment of pride for Kuno, and for India—may Gamini and her three little sprinters grow strong and carry the nation’s cheetah revival story forward with speed and grace,” Yadav added.

Survival rates match global reintroduction efforts, with cheetahs hunting successfully in their new home.
