Chicago Marathon Runner Sacrifices Record to Save Kitten

Quick Smiles:

  • A Chicago Marathon runner sacrificed a record finish to save a stray kitten she found on the course.
  • Spectator Andrea Maldonado offered the kitten a new home, making the story even sweeter.
  • The kitten, named Casper, received free vet services and joined Maldonado’s loving family.

In a heartwarming turn of events, a runner at the Chicago Marathon made a selfless decision that showcased the true spirit of compassion.

Sarah Bohan, on track for a personal best, stumbled upon a tiny white face huddled under a pile of leaves during the race.

With two rescue cats of her own, Bohan couldn’t bear to leave the stray kitten behind. She made the brave choice to walk the rest of the course, cradling the 1-pound feline in her arms.

Thankfully, Bohan encountered Gia Nigro, a friend and fellow animal lover, who offered to help find someone to take care of the kitten.

As luck would have it, they came across a family gathered outside a barbershop in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.

Among the group was Andrea Maldonado, a mother of four who immediately expressed her willingness to provide a new home for the adorable kitten.

The heartwarming story caught the attention of PAWS Chicago, the rescue organization that Bohan was running to support.

They reached out to Maldonado to offer free vet services as a token of gratitude for her support. Maldonado gladly accepted the offer and brought the little fellow, now named Casper, in for a thorough examination.

Despite being underweight, Casper received all the necessary vaccinations, microchipping, and flea/tick treatment, earning a clean bill of health.

Casper found himself in the spotlight, capturing the hearts of people around the world. Over 350 media stories in multiple languages covered his incredible journey, and his story served as a reminder of the kindness and compassion that exists in our world.

This heartwarming tale of a runner’s sacrifice and a stranger’s generosity reminds us that acts of kindness can create ripples of joy and touch the lives of those in need. It’s a testament to the power of empathy and the incredible bond we share with animals.

As for Sarah Bohan, she finished the marathon at an impressive 3 hours and 33 minutes this year, and she’s already set her sights on breaking records in the future.

Together, we can spread joy and remind others of the incredible impact we can make when we extend a helping hand to those in need.
