- When Ashton found out that his late grandpa’s dog was in danger of being put down, he and his husband decided to drive the three hours to retrieve the poor pup.
- They had no idea what the dog would look like, but they have already decided that he would be part of their family.
- The dog, now named Oatmilk Latte, is now in the care of his new dads, who will do everything they can to make him healthy again.
Ashton Hart’s grandfather sadly passed away from Covid recently. And while he had fallen out of touch with him for six years, he wanted to find out if his grandpa had any pets that might need a new owner. So when he learned that his late grandpa’s dog was likely to be put down, he decided to get him.
He and his husband drove three hours to collect the dog, without even knowing what the dog would look like. They just knew that they would love him no matter what.
Ashton had been working in animal activism, so there was no way that he would let the poor pup be put down.
His husband had also been wanting a dog for a while, so they had been fostering and were about to volunteer at PAWS to find a canine companion.
They were met by a big, chunky pooch, who was clearly overweight and potentially had several health issues. He was also extremely dirty and his fur was very matted. Still, they didn’t care. The dog, now named Oatmilk Latte, is already part of their family.
The sweet pup was also exhausted, so his new dads loaded him into the car and drove the three hours back home.
Despite Oatmilk Latte’s condition, Ashton is sure that his grandpa loved the dog in his own way, and that the pup also loved him, since the pup was still clearly grieving.
The sweet pup will need some time to settle into his new home, but he has his new dads to take care of him now.
And while Ashton and his husband had no idea what they were getting themselves into, they surely don’t regret their decision.
Oatmilk Latte is their dog now, and they can’t wait for their new lives together.
Ashton shared, “We had no idea what he would be like, but he’s perfect for us.”
