Dad gets tattoo similar to son’s birthmark so he’ll feel less insecure [Video]

• Derek Prue Sr.’s son has a huge birthmark on his chest that was making him insecure.
• He decided to have a tattoo similar to his son’s birthmark which took 30 hours and six to eight weeks to finish.
• Derek Jr is deeply touched by his Dad’s gesture.

A birthmark can be a source of insecurity for people more so if it is huge.  Derek Prue Sr.’s son, has been so self-conscious about his birthmark that encompasses the top right portion of his torso.

Derek Sr. said as he was holding back tears, “I saw how he was reacting, and it made me want to do it so that he wouldn’t be the only one.”

It being having a tattoo that would match that of his son’s birthmark.

He sought the help of Tony Gilbert, a tattoo artist who said that Derek Sr.’s been through the wringer sitting for the tattoo. “It’s pretty painful.”

It took 30 hours and between six to eight weeks for the tattoo to be finished.

Derek Sr. said that he underestimated the amount of time the entire process would take. “I remember the first time coming in, laying down and then after maybe three, four hours, I was like, ‘Yeah, are we almost done?’ And Tony’s like, ‘Yeah, we’re almost done the outline.’”

Derek Jr. did not know what his Dad was up to but he got suspicious when his mom took pictures of his birthmark.  He is deeply touched by his Dad’s gesture.

Prue Jr. said, “I was happy and I was a little confused. I didn’t know he was going to do that.”

Derek Sr. may have endured a lot of pain but when Shanel Prue asked his son if he would be comfortable going swimming with his shirt off, he said, “Whenever Daddy’s there I can take the shirt off. Now we have the same marks for life.”

For his part, Derek Sr. says, “I think it’s amazing to be able to comfort your son like that. It’s more than just your kid seeing your name, or something, you get to actually, like, really change the way he feels about himself.”
