Dad throws himself in front of charging bull at the rodeo to protect son [Video]

A heroic dad is being praised online for throwing his body over his son’s after the latter was thrown from a bull during a Texas rodeo.

The incident that happened last month was captured in a video and was posted online. In the now-viral video, Cody Hooks is seen being bucked from the back of a bull upon entering the ring during a rodeo in Belton, Texas.

Handlers failed to subdue the raging bull and charged back toward Cody. But Cody’s dad, Landis Hooks, suddenly appeared and threw himself on top of his son. Landis covered Cody’s head and body with his own.

The bull charged on the pair. Thankfully, they were not seriously hurt or it “could’ve been a [hell of a] lot worse,” according to Cody. The young man shared the heart-pounding video to his Instagram feed.

Cody said in the caption that he was usually “not one to post falling off” footage, but made an exception due to what happened in the ring.

“Big thanks to my dad @hooks.landis and the bullfighters last night in Belton, Tx,” he wrote, adding the hashtag, “#blessed.“

The video has garnered more than 120,000 views (and counting) since it was posted on Feb. 13.

“A father willing to lay down his life for his son! ❤️,” read one comment on the video.

“That’s a hell of a Dad you got!” said another user.

A third commented, “We are glad you’re okay! Rest up! ????????”

For Landis, a father’s love means the willingness to sacrifice your life for your children. That’s the greatest love of all.
