Dog earns Home Depot apron for giving ‘excellent customer service’

• Heaven was able to adjust well to new environments and people, and Home Depot has since become his favorite place!

Heaven, a rescue puppy from Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter, was once scared of everything — strangers, crowd, noise. She had a rough start and was always anxious around people.

But when her mom Jackie Rakers took her home, she made sure that Heaven would come out of her shell, and she found the best place to help her: Home Depot.  

“The Home Depot runs started as a way to help her with her fears,” Jackie told The Dodo. “She was nervous about new places and new sounds, so we’d go for five minutes and she’d get all the treats. Then we started going longer and longer and exposing her to more and more things within the store.”

Jackie was successful in her attempt to help Heaven, and Home Depot is now the pup’s favorite place to be!

Heaven has become popular among the staff and even earned her very own tiny employee apron, which excites her every time she sees it.

“I keep it in the car so we are always ready,” Jackie said. “As soon as she can tell we enter the parking lot, she just quivers until I put [the apron] on her and then takes off towards ‘work.’ She walks around like she owns the place.”

Now, Heaven is so much comfortable around people — strangers or friends — and is even offering customer service at the store.

“She walks around minding her own business and then suddenly insists on meeting someone,” her fur mom said. “She just sits and stares. They always end up saying how they needed that pick-me-up. It’s like she has a sense of who needs to be shown they are loved that day — and one of her favorite places to do that is Home Depot!”

With a lot of training, Heaven has learned to trust. She now even finds who needs her and gives them her smile and a warm cuddle.

“She’s the perfect example of what happens when you meet someone where they are at and love unconditionally,” Jackie said. “She went from so scared and so sad to the happiest dog.”
