  • Stray Rescue of St. Louis received a call for a dog needing help in an abandoned house.
  • After three visits, the shelter was able to rescue not just one dog but all her 8 puppies from the house.
  • All the pups are now in foster care while the mama dog waits for someone to adopt her.

Donna Lochmann, chief life saving officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, received a call about a dog in a basement of an abandoned house.  She immediately went to the area and received a surprise as it was not just one dog but also a litter of puppies.

It took 3 visits to completely rescue all puppies and dog mom.

On her first visit, as soon as she got out of her car, she could already hear multiple babies crying.  The pups who were just a few weeks old were yelping.  From another part of the house, Lochmann could hear the dog mom barking.

Lochmann scooped out the three pups, brought them to her car and set out a trap for mom.  But the mom got scared and ran off.

The three pups ended up in foster care with Lochmann.

When she went back on her 2nd visit, the mom was still nowhere to be found.  Luckily, on her 3rd visit, she heard a pup crying from the first floor. But when she was about to climb the stairs from the basement, the pup landed at her feet. She said she could not believe there’s still a pup left when they searched everywhere the first time they were there.

Lochmann was also puzzled at how the puppy came to land in the basement. So, she went to the first floor and found 4 more puppies.  Upon closer inspection, there was a large hole in the floorboards.  Mystery solved — that is where the puppies have been falling from.

She took the 5 puppies to her car and set out a trap inside the house.  After a while when she checked, the mom was already inside the trap!

All in all, they have already found 8 puppies from the house.

Lochmann brought the little family to the shelter and named the mama dog Windy Day.

Shortly upon arriving at the shelter, the five pups ended up in foster homes.

Even if mama Windy Day is receiving all the love from the shelter staff, Lochmann hopes a family will take the sweet dog in and give her all the love she deserves. We wish you to end up in your forever home soon, Windy Day!
