  • Left outside without food or water, Bella had to chew her leg off to free herself from an entangled tether.
  • Fortunately, she was rescued and taken to a veterinary hospital, where she recovered.
  • She was then taken on a 1,800-mile road trip to an animal sanctuary where she will receive all the love and care she deserves.

Bella, a young pit bull terrier, has overcome a painful journey and finally found a safe haven in an animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.

Bella was found tied in the backyard of a Saginaw, Michigan home on August 16, 2021. She was left without shelter, water, or food, for around three weeks.

She found herself entangled by one of the tethers so she had to chew her left hind leg off to free herself.

Fortunately, she was rescued and brought to a veterinary hospital, where she had to undergo emergency surgery.

She has since recovered and regained up to 15 pounds within five months. She was then selected for admission to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Michigan animal control officers Abbe Balderstone and Desi Sage volunteered to make the 1,800-mile trip with Bella to Utah. Local car dealership Thelen Subaru lent the vehicle and covered the gas expenses.

Several people showed up to bid farewell to Bella and wish her well.

Best Friends Animal Society CEO Julie Castle said, “This is really the embodiment of animal welfare, everyone working together.”
