Dog’s Dramatic Diet Protest Wins Hearts In Cute Video
Quick Smiles:

- Linda Robinson, Bella’s owner, shares their journey of balancing treats and health.
- Despite Bella’s adorable protests, the family is seeing positive results from her diet.
Linda Robinson from Dublin, Ireland, has become a viral sensation by sharing the amusing struggles of her beloved cockapoo, Bella, as she navigates the world of dieting. Bella, who has been treated like a cherished family member since she was a puppy, has a knack for charming everyone with her irresistible puppy dog eyes.
“Myself and my sister got her as a puppy and have treated her as a little sister from day one,” Robinson shared, noting that Bella is “spoiled rotten.”
The video that captured the internet’s attention shows Bella’s routine as she hops down from her seat at the kitchen table and heads straight to the cupboard housing her treats. Her expectant gaze is met with a firm, “No, you’re not allowed. You’re on a diet.”
Bella’s response is nothing short of theatrical. Whimpering, stamping her paws, and even licking her lips, she puts on a show reminiscent of a toddler’s tantrum. Despite her best efforts, Robinson stands her ground, although she admits, “I still have Bella on her diet but sometimes give in when she’s crying for treats.”
Describing Bella as “like a little human—she sits at the kitchen table, has her own chair and is spoiled rotten,” Robinson paints a picture of a dog who knows how to work a room.
TikTok users couldn’t resist Bella’s antics, with one commenting, “Not her stamping her paws,” while another related, “How I as a human feel on a diet also.”
Robinson describes Bella as a “fun, loving, bubbly dog,” but confesses that exercise isn’t Bella’s favorite activity. “Once I mention the word ‘walk’ when it’s cold or raining outside, she will run and hide under the kitchen table.”
Despite Bella’s protests, the family is committed to her health. “As much as we love keeping her happy and giving her all the treats she loves and deserves, we have stuck to cutting them down and we are really starting to see some good results,” Robinson explained.
“Bella is not too happy about this and has now left the family room to sit in the kitchen in protest some nights—but it’s what’s best for her.”
In the broader context, obesity in dogs is a prevalent issue, with reports indicating that 56 percent of dogs in the United States are overweight. Experts recommend that treats should constitute no more than 10 percent of a dog’s daily calories, suggesting alternatives like carrots or bananas.
While exercise is beneficial, experts emphasize that diet plays a more significant role in weight loss, contributing 60 to 70 percent compared to 30 to 40 percent from exercise.
