  • Mya the rescued brindle pittie uses her bowl not just to ask for food but also when she wants to go outside.
  • Lately, she has used it to call “dibs” in the dog bed that she shares with her two siblings.
  • Her siblings either obey the claim or ignore it and all she can do is lay down with them on the bed.

Briana Maiola, a fur parent of three, is proud to share that one of her beloved dogs, Mya, has figured out a way to communicate her needs with a bowl.

The rescued brindle pittie who has a big personality would have something to say whenever she has a bowl in her mouth.

Usually, when Mya asks for food, she would make a lot of noises and wiggle like crazy and follow her mom and stare at her. When she walks from and to a window or door and drops the bowl on the floor from her mouth with a loud clang, it means she wants to go outside.

Her mom has already figured the “bowl language” out.

The latest is not for her mom but for her dog siblings, Scrappy and Kekie.

Mya has a favorite bed and she lays claim to it by dropping her bowl on it as a sign that she has reserved it already.  Just like when people put a reserved sign on a table at restaurants.

Maiola said, “We will find bowls sitting in beds, on couches, or in other cozy spots to ‘hold her place’. Mya will drop a bowl and return to the spot when she’s ready for a snooze!”

Mya’s way of holding her place brings joy to her mom as it shows Mya’s one-of-a-kind way of communicating.  But what really makes her smile is Scrappy and Kekie’s reaction to the bowl — respect the claim and find another spot to lie down in or ignore it.

When the two ignore her bowl, Mya lays down in bed with them and tries not to disturb Scrappy and Kekie.  But when she likes the spot so much, she puts on her saddest expression and looks at her mom and dad and tries to aid them to clear the spot for her.

But whether they ignore or obey, the three siblings are thick as thieves.  Their days are usually spent playing in the backyard or snuggling. Mya may be dramatic in her ways but for her mom, she’s the happiest and wiggliest dog and she is loved so much.

What could the bowl mean next, Mya?
