A family was touring Arrowhead Stadium, home to the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday and ended up taking a stray kitten as a souvenir.

Miranda Comins was touring the stadium with her father and brother when they looked over the whole stadium as they were finishing up their tour. It was then that her dad spotted two kittens playing down on the field.

They saw one kitten run off, but the other one ended up entangling herself in one of the field goal nets. When the family noticed that the poor kitten was trapped, they decided to go down to the field with their tour guide to help her.

When they reached her, her head was so entangled in the netting that she was being strangled. As Miranda’s brother, Dustin Weeks, gently held the kitten, Miranda and her dad tried to get her free.

“She kind of passed out for a couple of minutes. She stopped breathing for a minute, couldn’t feel her heart anymore. Her arms were going limp,” Dustin told Fox 4.

Thankfully, Dustin was a former Army medic trained in CPR. He was able to save the kitten through gentle CPR and ended up taking her home. He named the kitten Alex after former Kansas City Chiefs player Alex Smith.

Dustin said that like Alex Smith, he and the kitten had both undergone challenges that they had to battle through.

Dustin told Fox 4, “I got hit by a car, and so I got a metal rod. And Smith didn’t give up, and neither did she, and so she’s Alex. Not the souvenir we expected, but I’ll take it.”
