  • Nalu, a 10-year-old dog, was trapped inside a burning apartment.
  • When a firefighter learned that Nalu was still inside the home, he entered the building to search for the dog.
  • After dragging the lifeless dog outside, the firefighter performed mouth-to-snout resuscitation on Nalu until she came back to life.

When a fire broke out inside Crystal Lamirande’s flat, firefighters were called. While they battled to put out the fire, Crystal told firefighter Andrew Klein that Nalu, her 10-year-old dog, was still inside the home.

Firefighters are committed to saving lives, and to the firefighter, Nalu’s life was just as important as Crystal’s. He packed his belongings and bravely entered the building, crawling through the smokey dwelling on his hands and knees in search of the victim. He ultimately found the dog, but she didn’t seem to be moving.

When Andrew found Nalu, he described her as “completely lifeless.” He dragged her outside to get some fresh air, then began CPR.

Andrew administered mouth-to-snout resuscitation on Nalu for the next 20 minutes. The dog didn’t have a pulse and wasn’t even breathing. As Andrew struggled to resurrect the four-legged pet, Crystal sat near him, sobbing and terrified. Other firefighters and onlookers soon surrounded them, silently waiting for a positive result.

Nalu awoke after what seemed like an eternity!

Andrew consoled the dog as she groggily regained consciousness. The animal was frightened and feeble, but otherwise unhurt. Nalu was transported to a veterinarian and placed in an oxygen tent for around 24 hours. She was back to her usual, cheerful self when she was discharged.

We fear to imagine what would have occurred if Andrew hadn’t acted so promptly and used his skills so well!

Nalu recovered completely thanks to this wonderfully kind and brave firefighter! Andrew definitely places high importance on the preservation of human life. It makes no difference whether they are human or animal.
