Fluor Field, home to the Greenville Drive, a minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, stands as a symbol of transformation in Greenville’s downtown area.

This ballpark, with its left-field wall reminiscent of Fenway Park’s Green Monster, has more than just architectural charm. It has played a pivotal role in rejuvenating a previously struggling part of the city.

Craig Brown, the owner of both the park and the team, expressed,
“Fluor Field has become the front porch of the community. In the South, the front porch is where the family gathers. That’s very much how we operate the place.”

With around 500,000 visitors passing through its gates each year, the park hosts not only High-A baseball games but also a variety of events. The team name ‘Drive’ reflects Greenville’s rich automotive history, nodding to local giants like BMW and Michelin.

Since Brown’s acquisition of the team, the ballpark has seen numerous alumni advance to the major leagues. Notable names include Clay Buckholtz, Anthony Rizzo, and Mookie Betts, each leaving their mark in MLB history.

Beyond its role in sports, Fluor Field has contributed to the preservation of Greenville’s heritage. Following the decline of the textile industry, the ballpark repurposed old building materials, including clay bricks, to maintain the city’s historical essence.

Greenville Mayor Knox White highlighted the stadium’s transformative impact, stating,
“This was the transformational event. Suddenly, this area close into the stadium became a place for condos and some high rises and hotels. But beyond it, residential neighborhoods were transformed, as well.”

Fluor Field stands as a testament to the power of community and the enduring legacy of baseball, bringing new life to Greenville’s downtown and uniting its residents.
