Patients in Lancashire are raving about the five-star hospital food made with wild venison from the Forest of Bowland. The East Lancashire Hospitals Trust has partnered with Forestry England, the government agency managing English woodland, to serve this healthy and sustainable meat.

Venison is high in B vitamins, protein, and iron, and very low in fat, making it an ideal choice for hospital patients. This partnership emerged as an unexpected benefit of the Brexit-induced downturn in demand for venison, which forced Forestry England to find new outlets for the meat.

The agency partnered with Highland Game to supply wild venison from the Forest of Bowland, and it has already rolled out the service to four more hospital trusts, with plans to expand to a further 20 this year.
