Jiujitsu tests the strength, agility, and speed of athletes. Chile held its largest jiujitsu championship earlier this week in the city of Valparaíso, where hundreds gathered to watch competitors vie for first place.

Perhaps to an onlooker who has no context of what jiujitsu is about, the sport could look more like aggressive fighting. That is most likely what a peacekeeping dog thought when he rushed toward the mats and tried to keep the peace between two competitors.

Footage showed a black dog suddenly making an appearance from the sideline before coming between two athletes in an effort to stop them from fighting.

Participants, event staff, and the crowd had no idea where the dog came from, but they were definitely amused by the dog’s heartfelt plea for peace.

The fighters themselves couldn’t help but smile.

The referee did his best to carefully escort the peacekeeping canine.

The competition was a show of domination and brute force, but the appearance of the sweet dog reminded everyone how care and affection come just as easily.

Francisca Silueta was among the spectators who won’t forget the moment.

Having recorded the video above, Francisca shared, “Suddenly, all the eyes were staring at this dog, and all the competitors had to stop. Everybody started clapping. It was like the dog had won first place.”
