Grieving Mama Dog Treats Toys like Her Babies [Video]

  • Mama dog Samanta was too fragile to carry her babies to term.
  • When the shelter tried to cheer her up with toys, she treated them like her babies as a way to cope.
  • Thankfully, she has since found a new companion: a young dog whom she now treats like her daughter.

Samanta, a stray mama dog, was pregnant when she was rescued last month from the streets of Brazil. The animal welfare group Viva Bicho Santos did their best to care for her, but sadly, her body was too fragile to carry her babies to term.

Samanta’s rescuers tried their best to cheer up the grieving mom.

But when they gave her toys to play with, they only reminded her of her loss.

The shelter wrote, “We threw several toys on the floor in an attempt to make her play, but we saw that she picked them up one by one and took them to her bed. Samanta adopted the toys as if they were her babies, and now she is licking and taking care of them.”

❤️Posted by ONG Viva Bicho Santos on Thursday, December 23, 2021

Heartbroken for Samanta, the shelter tried to find her a new recipient for her love.

Sara, a younger stray dog that recently arrived at the shelter, was also lonely without a parent.

As soon as Samanta and Sara met, both their hearts were healed.

“And that’s how Samanta got a new daughter. Now, no more crying. Just love,” the shelter wrote.

The new mother-and-daughter duo have since become inseparable.

You can see the happiness they have brought each other!

Samanta still needs a lot of time for her weak body to recover to full health, but her heart has started to heal, thanks to Sara.
