Quick Smiles:

  • Artist Lisa Laureta created a custom urn for a cat named Sandwiches that looks like a deli sandwich.
  • The urn includes paper clay details such as lettuce, tomato, and French fries, nodding to the cat’s favorite snack.
  • The heartfelt memorial quickly drew attention online and inspired others to share stories about their own food-named pets.

When a beloved cat named Sandwiches passed away, artist Lisa Laureta knew exactly how to honor his legendary spirit.

She created a custom urn for her friend Kristin Clifford that looks just like a delicious submarine sandwich, complete with all the toppings.

The Making of a Tasty Tribute

Laureta used a wooden box as a base and meticulously added sculpted layers to mimic a deli masterpiece.

The lid of the box opens by pulling on a small tomato sculpture, creating a functional piece of art that perfectly matches the cat’s playful personality.

“It was kind of like putting together a really fun puzzle, figuring out where I could squeeze in some lettuce,” Laureta shared.

Clifford, who adopted Sandwiches from a rescue in Los Angeles, says the tribute is a beautiful reflection of her friendly, silly companion.

The urn now sits on her mantel as a cheerful reminder of the joy the cat brought to everyone he met.

“It makes me smile now, and he always made me smile,” Clifford said.
