Hero Cat Gives Life To Save Kids From Venomous Snake

  • While playing in their backyard in Australia, a very venomous eastern brown snake slid over to two young kids.
  • Their family cat Arthur saved the kids and killed the snake but got bitten.
  • Arthur collapsed and died from the venom the following day.

A proverb says that a cat has nine lives.  And Arthur gave his last life to save two children from an Eastern Brown Snake in Queensland, Australia.

According to Australian Geographic, the Eastern Brown Snake, or Pseudonaja Textilis, is largely “responsible for more deaths every year in Australia than any other group of snakes.”

When disturbed, it raises from the ground into an “S” shape, opens its mouth widely and strikes.

The Australian Graphic said, “Its venom causes progressive paralysis and stops the blood from clotting, which may take many doses of antivenom to reverse. Victims may collapse within a few minutes.”

When Arthur was playing with his family in their backyard, the snake slithered to the two kids.  Seeing the danger to his family, Arthur fought with the snake and killed it.

In the ensuing chaos, the family did not realize that Arthur got bitten by the snake in the fight. They said that Arthur collapsed but quickly recovered like nothing was wrong.

The vets noted that “collapse events like this [are] a common symptom of snake bites.”

The next day, Arthur again collapsed so they rushed him to the Animal Emergency Service’s hospital in Tanawha.  But by then, the vets said, his “symptoms were too severe to recover.”

The hospital announced, “It was with the heaviest of hearts his owners had to leave Arthur after he gained his angel wings.”

The family is devastated to have lost a family member who valiantly fought to save the children’s lives. Heroes do come in all shapes, sizes, and species.
