Hero Dog Rescues 89-Year-Old After Fall

On Manitoulin Island, Ontario, 89-year-old Mickey McKinney slipped outside around 4:30 p.m. while moving his snowblower.

Unable to stand, he yelled for help as exhaustion set in.

Thankfully, neighbor Linda Gilchrist’s seven-year-old rescue dog Rosa began barking unusually at the door.

Intrigued, Linda leashed Rosa and stepped outside, immediately hearing Mickey’s cries for assistance.

The retired police officer of over 30 years found himself needing rescue for the first time.

“Eventually, I started getting worried,” McKinney told CTV News.

“As a last resort, I start yelling for help,” he said.

“She went to the door and she barked, which was unusual,” Gilchrist said.

“I mean, there was nobody there. And so I got my boots on and her leash, and we went outdoors. As soon as we got outside, I heard a call for help.”

“I brought her some cookies the next day,” he said with a smile.

“She’s a lifesaver. I think so, anyway.”
