A quiet Sunday drive became a lifesaving event when Casey Curtis witnessed a car veer off the road and into a canal, prompting his swift response.

He called 911, found the overturned Jeep in the water, and rescued three children aged 8, 2, and 4 months from the back seat.

“I got to the car, opened up the door, and there were three kids sitting there, staring at me, helpless,” Curtis said.

Realizing their mother was still in danger, he re-entered the water to pull her from the submerged vehicle and resuscitated her on the canal bank.

“I lifted the mom’s head up out of the water, and she wasn’t breathing,” Curtis recalled. “I gave her a breath, and… she started breathing again.”

First responders rushed the family to the hospital, where the children were reported unharmed. The mother, Shyenique Wilkins, remains hospitalized.

Family, friends, and supporters are rallying to help with medical expenses as the family recovers from the ordeal.
