It’s not impossible to encourage thousands of people around the globe, even at an old age. Ask 84-year-old John Butler how.

John was a former farmer from Derbyshire, England. He can usually be seen riding a tricycle, sporting a striking beard, or wearing a carefree Oxford-blue beret and gloves.

A longtime practitioner of meditation, John started recording inspirational messages to share life lessons he learned throughout the years — making him a motivational guru adored by a growing fan base.

Currently, his YouTube channel ‘Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler’ has 182,000 subscribers.

His tranquil tone, calming presence and “voice like a warm glass of milk” have made it much easier for him to grow viewers trying to get through the day-to-day anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was in a 2016 BBC interview when John’s rise to fame began. His mindful take on life made him stand out. Members of the Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) community even singled him out after the episode aired, saying that what he said and the way he said it were something really note-worthy.

Since that interview, John’s popularity has soared high.

He’s elated with how he is able to impact the world, one meditation at a time — despite the fact that at first, he had very little knowledge of the internet, much more of YouTube. Nevertheless, what’s important is the now when he is able to help folks in coping with modern-day life.

“So many people have this problem with an agitated mind, a restless mind, and because one instinctively seeks for some sort of balance, people look for rest or peace don’t they?” the 84-year-old guru told BBC. “If something in my voice conveys that restfulness then thank God for that. I don’t know quite how it happens… but I’m just quietly glad to be able to share what I love.”
