  • Living in the streets of Nairobi, Kenya has not hardened the heart of a little boy who started an act of kindness from flooding in.
  • John Thuo gave all the money that he had in his pocket from begging to a woman who needed more treatments for his breathing difficulties.
  • A stranger who saw his selfless act posted photos and stories on social media which led to a flood of donations for the woman and got John adopted.

A true act of kindness does not expect anything in return.  But the universe has a way of paying back those who give generously even when it is all that they have.

John Thuo grew up in the streets of Nairobi, Kenya.  He had no family.  He had no home.  He survived by asking for money from strangers he met on the streets.

But one encounter with a stranger turned his life around.

One day while vehicles were stopped for traffic and he was begging the drivers, he chanced upon 32-year-old Gladys Kamande.  John was curious about all the gadgets surrounding Gladys. The woman explained that she relied on oxygen cylinders, an oxygen concentrator, and a generator in order to breathe because she had a collapsed lung.

She also got blind from having a ruptured optic nerve from one of her 12 surgeries.

Hearing all that Gladys went through made John shed tears.  And his way of expressing his empathy was to take Gladys’ hand and pray with her for God’s provision for all the treatments that she still had to go through.  And lastly, he gave her all the money that he had from his pocket.

John did not know that a passerby named Njogu Wa Njoroge witnessed what he did, asked around for his background and shared it on social media.

Njogu said, “I asked him why he decided to give the only money he had in his pocket. He told me he opted to give because even if he suffered the same, others would support him.”

And just like that, the world knew of John’s good deed and donations came pouring in for Glady’s treatment.  It also led to John getting into a children’s home and school. John had one request, though, for him to be near Gladys.

The best news of all, John got adopted into his new family and home.

It just shows that when you spread kindness, it will find its way back to you — a thousandfold!

Thank you, John!
