Quick Smiles:

  • A homeless man named Weldon saved a 6-year-old girl from traffic.
  • The girl’s family calls him a hero for his quick thinking.
  • Weldon declined any reward, simply happy to help.

A grateful Green Bay family is celebrating a true act of heroism after Weldon, a local man experiencing homelessness, risked his safety to save a child from danger.

The dramatic scene unfolded as the Roberts family was moving homes, when little Honeretta unexpectedly darted toward a busy street, sparking panic among her loved ones.

Her grandmother, Tynetta Johnson, shared the moment of fear as Honeretta, who has autism, ran toward the Main Street Bridge. “In my mind, there’s water over here, there’s a bridge over here, there’s a busy street over here,” she said.

Desperate for help, Johnson called out, and Weldon responded immediately, dashing into traffic to reach Honeretta just in time. “He didn’t think about himself. He thought about her,” Johnson recalled.

Weldon, who receives support from the local community shelter, humbly turned down any reward offered. “I just do my best, and I hope in anybody’s situation like that somebody would do the same.”

The Roberts family hopes Weldon’s selfless actions will inspire others and remind everyone of the everyday heroes in our midst.

Let’s celebrate the kindness around us by sharing more stories like Weldon’s and spreading hope in our communities!
