A dog owner recently had the internet in stitches after sharing the one word she avoids saying in front of her husky.
In a TikTok video posted by @maureenl14u, she inadvertently says “walk” while chatting with a friend in the living room.
Immediately, paw stomps are heard, and her Siberian husky appears, eagerly anticipating the promised walk.
“We can’t say the w word or he’ll stalk you for the rest of the day,” reads the caption accompanying the viral clip.
According to a 2021 article, dogs have an intelligence comparable to that of a toddler and can learn and recognize between 100 and 200 words.
So, it’s no surprise that your dog remembers terms like “bone” or “snack.”
Our canine friends are even capable of basic math. The American Kennel Club notes that dogs can perform simple addition and subtraction.
“The ability to count and do simple arithmetic might seem to be a superfluous skill for dogs, but it is a useful ability,” the AKC states on its website.
“For example, it is necessary for a female to know if all of her pups are present or if one of them had somehow gone astray and requires a search-and-rescue mission to be launched.”

I disagree with studies. Every dog is different. My dog knows probably closer that to 1000 words plus taught himself to speak short sentences of 3-4 words when he chooses to, not in response to my sentences. He does not use perfect enunciation because he is self taught and cannot use his tongue placement to make certain letter sounds. For instance, he does not know to place tongue against teeth or roof of mouth to speak letters like “L, but still very understandable. He’ll repeat some if frustrated when I don’t respond with certain actions.I also observe dogs have a manner of telepathic communication that we see but don’t understand. Noses together, eyes locked, then break apart to trot off and do their portion of a plan.
