Inspiring Single Mom Opens Up About Beautiful New Chapter After Heartbreaking Loss

Quick Smiles:
- A devoted mother is finding strength and growth six months after losing her beloved husband to ALS
- She’s bravely returning to work on a musical, showing her daughters that women rise even when life is hard
- The family is moving forward together with hope, resilience, and the values their father helped instill
Eric Dane passed away on February 19, 2026, less than a year after publicly disclosing his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis diagnosis. ALS took Eric Dane from his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their daughters Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14.
Six months later, Rebecca opened up about her life today as a single mom and how she’s balancing her career and parenthood.
“It’s really a season of growth for all of us,” she said.
“Life is hard for us right now. But we are getting through, and we are soldiering on.”
Finding Balance and Showing Strength After Loss
She’s currently working on the musical adaptation of the 1999 film “Jawbreaker.” Rebecca Gayheart wants her daughters to know that even though Eric Dane is no longer with them, she can take care of the family.
“I took many years off to be a stay-at-home mom,” she said.
“So now it’s really important for me to do this musical and show my kids that this is, number one, what we do as women. We go back to work. We say yes to things that are scary. And also, we do that even when life is hard.”
Rebecca Gayheart feels like she and Eric Dane prepared their daughters well to be teenagers who are responsible and forward-thinking.
“I think we’ve tried to instill just character and making good decisions, keeping themselves safe, setting boundaries,” she said.
“I think they have a pretty good sense of a safe situation and a dangerous situation. And we’ve been doing this since they were little. So, they know.”

I always try to read between the lines ins stories like this. It sounds to me that Rebecca might draw her strength from a solid faith in God.
