The coronavirus outbreak has prompted the global community to practice social distancing and stay indoors. Several countries that have the highest number of cases, including Italy, have enforced a stricter lockdown.

As millions of people are forced to stay inside for quite some time, more and more residents find new ways to lift each other’s spirits in this trying time.

In Italy, entire neighborhoods and communities have taken to music to encourage each other — by singing and playing musical instruments from their balconies.

Several citizens have been filmed spontaneously singing songs together or playing instruments from the balconies or windows of their homes — from Palermo and Turin in the north to Naples and Salerno in the south.

The amazing moments have been captured on video. In these clips, some neighborhoods can be heard spectacularly performing uplifting renditions of Puccini opera solos. Others can be heard shouting out several football cheers and victory chants. Meanwhile, others have chosen to sing the national anthem to uplift each other’s spirits.

In several of the spontaneous singalongs, residents were pleasantly surprised to see their neighbors bring their instruments to the window, from pianos to trumpets to harps and guitars. Others made do with pots and pans.

This is just one of the wonderful trends that started as a much-needed morale boost for quarantined citizens across the country.

Regardless of the musical content, the community has surely benefited from the cheery moments as a whole.

Share this to inspire your community to do the same!
