  • Sloth bear rescued from forced-dancing trade is now healthy and happy
  • Julia Roberts gave the rescued cub a name while filming in India
  • Wildlife charity reports the bear is flourishing years later

A sloth bear that captured hearts worldwide after Julia Roberts named him is living a joyful life free from harm.

The Hollywood star was filming Eat, Pray, Love in India in 2009 when she learned of the rescued cub. The little bear had been cruelly forced to dance for tourists before being saved by wildlife rescuers.

Grateful for the charity’s work, Roberts gave the bear his name and helped bring attention to the cruel practice of bear dancing.

“He is doing so well and really loves his new life,” a rescue spokesperson shared.

Today the bear enjoys a safe sanctuary with plenty of space to roam, climb, and forage just as nature intended.
