It’s well known that dogs, especially Labradors, are renowned for their ravenous appetites. Left to their own devices, dogs might choose to eat all day. However, it’s key for dog owners to know the right amount of food their pets should consume daily.

Based on a 2020 article by veterinarian Jennifer Coates, it’s crucial that pet owners adjust their dogs’ food intake based on size. “Smaller and toy breeds need a lot less food than bigger and more athletic dogs,” she explained. Tiny toy breeds that weigh up to 3 pounds require about 139 calories daily, medium dogs up to 30 pounds need around 781 calories, and larger dogs weighing up to 100 pounds should intake around 1,926 calories daily. “Unless stated otherwise, these amounts are the overall recommended calories for your dog within a 24-hour period,” Coates advised.
