Sisu, a stray dog, has had no home to go to, which is probably why he did everything in his power to have a buddy by his side.

Last week, Sisu broke five times into a North Carolina Dollar General, trying to get the stuffed unicorn toy!

He was, of course, stopped by an employee who took away the toy and placed it back on the shelf. But that didn’t, in any way, stop the persistent Sisu. So the Dollar General staff called Duplin County Animal Services and asked for help.

“We got a call from our communications center that [Sisu] was at a Dollar General going in and taking a unicorn, and he’d done this five times,” Joe Newburn, the supervisor at Duplin County Animal Services, told The Dodo. “So, finally, they had to lock the door and not let him in. When my officer got there and found out he wanted the unicorn really bad, she purchased it.”

Animal control officer Samantha Lane heard how desperate Sisu has become in getting the toy, so she thought that buying it for him was the right thing to do.

“She was just buying the unicorn because that’s what she does,” Joe said. “Every animal she comes in contact with she does that for.”

It’s not clear why Sisu wanted the unicorn so badly. The animal care team assumed that the unicorn could be sparking some memories from his former home. Whatever the real reason is, one thing is certain: Sisu is never letting go of his purple friend, and the team knows that.

“He’s always with that thing,” Joe said. “The only time he doesn’t mess with it is when it gets dirty. But once you wash it and clean it up, it’s back to being his buddy again.”

Joe added that Sisu likes to play and is “very smart” and “well mannered.” He knows how to obey simple tricks such as “sit,” “stay,” and “shake hands.”

To help him with his aggression over other male dogs, Sisu was brought to the Lab Rescue of North Carolina with his unicorn. Once he’s cleared, he’s up for his journey of finding his forever home.

And when that happens, Sisu’s future family will grab a bonus along — his unicorn buddy.
