  • Luna, an Australian shepherd puppy, got lost earlier this month and had trouble returning to her family.
  • The puppy was too frightened that she ran away whenever someone spotted her or called for her.
  • She was finally lured back home when she heard her human baby brother’s cries.

When Luna the Australian shepherd puppy got separated from her family, she got so frightened that she had trouble returning home. Thankfully, she was still nearby, and was eventually lured back home by the cries of her human baby brother.

The 8-month-old puppy went missing on Feb. 5. She was in the back of the family’s truck when she escaped while they were running errands near their Fries, Virginia, home.

The family looked all over for her during the rest of the weekend, but they had no luck.

They enlisted help from Sandra Colston of the Missing Animal Response Network, who provided them with a helpful map.

Luna’s mom, Amber Myers, said they also set out a scent route by laying out their clothes and her crate.

The puppy was spotted by a trail camera on the morning of Feb. 7, Monday. But when Amber’s niece and brother-in-law called for her, she got spooked and ran away.

Amber decided to inform anyone looking for Luna to avoid calling her since she will likely run away.

Amber shared that she realized that Luna became “a completely different dog while she was lost.” Being stuck in an unfamiliar area, their fight or flight instincts have kicked in, preventing them from recognizing family members.

The family had to start their search again.

While the rest of the family searched on foot, Amber’s sister, her 10-year-old daughter Braelynn, and 5-month-old Bowen stayed in the truck.

Bowen started fussing and crying, so his aunt picked him and got off the truck.

It was then that Luna came running toward the sounds of her baby brother!

“That’s what lured her in, his screaming,” Amber shared.

She added, “I guess she loves him a lot more than we ever thought she did.”

Luna was finally reunited with her family. She can now continue snuggling and playing with her brother, with whom she clearly has a special bond.
