  • The landlord of an apartment complex reported an abandoned puppy to the shelter.
  • When the animal rescuer came for the pup, the animal showed no bad behavior and even kissed the staff at the shelter where he was brought to be treated.
  • The pup, now named Freon, has found his forever home.

No one knew that a 2-year boxer mix was abandoned in the apartment where his family left him until the landlord reported it to a shelter.

The poor pup was already there for more than a week when the family informed the landlord.

Rescuer Donna Lochmann immediately went to the house.

Once more, some people moved away and forgot one of their family members. He was so scared at first, and then he turned into the sweetest angel in the world. Donna always takes her time so they aren’t scared and it really pays off. WE ARE FULL, we need you! Please come see us today to foster a dog so we can rescue more. This dog has lived here for a week all by himself! 2320 Pine Street Strayrescue.org 314-771-6121Posted by Stray Rescue of St. Louis on Tuesday, 12 July 2022

As she stood on top of the stairs, the dog just looked up at her.  He has not seen any humans for the past weeks. Lochman said, “When I cracked the door [open], I saw him huddling on one of the landings.”

The pup was surviving on bowls of food and supply of water.

As she made her way down the stairs, the pup showed hesitation but did not object to being put on leash.  Lochmann said with a little coaxing with Vienna sausages, the dog went up the steps with her and out the front door.

While in the car, Lochmann got the idea to name him Freon. She recalled, “He kind of stood up front with us and pushed his face against the air conditioner vents. That’s why he got the name Freon, because he liked the cold air on his face.”

Once in the shelter, Freon kissed everyone even when he was getting his shots.  The shelter also gave him the medical attention and care that he needed.

And the shelter is happy to report that Freon is now thriving in his forever home.  He has his forever family and even has a dog sibling!
