  • Mama Minka bravely rushed into a burning barn to save her kittens.
  • She was tragically unable to save all of them, but managed to rescue one.
  • They were taken in by an animal shelter, which is currently treating them and providing them will all the love and nurture that they need.

When a barn housing her litter caught on fire, Mama Minka did not hesitate to bravely rush in.

She went in and out of the fire multiple times, but was tragically unable to save all of her kittens. Still, she managed to save a small black kitten named Francis.

The owners of the property tried their best to help the semi-feral cats recover. But upon realizing that the cats needed more help, they decided to turn them over to Furget Me Not Animal Rescue, a no-kill organization.

The foster home-based organization shared that they were already over capacity, but simply couldn’t say no “to a very emergent situation with a cat in excruciating pain and unable to care for her baby.”

The shelter called Windermere Veterinary Hospital for help, and the cats were promptly given the treatment they needed.

Minka and Francis had sustained several injuries. The mama cat had burns all over her body and had inhaled a lot of smoke. As the medical bills added up and overwhelmed their owners, the animal rescue decided to help.

The shelter reached out to the followers on Facebook for any donation they can provide. In just over a week, they received the donations they needed. Thanks to everyone’s help, Minka has recovered so much.

The shelter staff wrote, “We’re amazed and incredibly humbled by the international response to Minka’s story! She’s made incredible progress with her socialization, it’s safe to say this is not a feral kitty.”

Equally grateful today for Francis & Minka’s incredible progress socially & leaps toward recovery, and my incredible volunteers who donate their time providing enrichment for these babies while I’m at work. It takes a village, and my village is freaking awesome ❤️ (and they are definitely NOT feral, we dislike humans more than these 2 some days ????)Posted by Furget Me Not Animal Rescue on Tuesday, July 20, 2021

They shared that Minka needs less pain medication now, and she has been “very comfortable and happy.” They added that “both she and her little Francis are enjoying all the wet food they can eat.”

Mama Minka is yet to fully recover, but we’re all looking forward to this heroic cat’s speedy recovery, along with her little one.
