  • Florida resident captures jaw-dropping lightning strike on video during thunderstorm
  • Tree miraculously survives direct hit without catching fire or falling
  • Sheriff’s office uses incredible footage to remind everyone about storm safety

Watching a storm roll in can be an incredibly exciting and sometimes frightening experience. When Mother Nature gets going, there’s really no telling what might happen.

A Martin County, Florida resident was videoing a storm outside his residence when a bolt of lightning struck a tree in the yard. Miraculously, it didn’t fall down or catch fire.

But it did scare the man and led the Martin County Sheriff’s Office to share a warning about the dangers of lightning.

The lightning strike truly looks like a special effect from a movie. As lightning strikes, a ball of fire engulfs the tree, then disappears.

The family is fortunate that nothing more serious occurred.

“In recent weeks, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and Martin County Fire Rescue have responded to multiple brush fires across our area. Deputies have even witnessed lightning strikes hitting in areas where active fires were already burning,” the sheriff’s department warned.

“Lightning doesn’t come with a warning. One strike can spark a fire, damage property, or put lives at risk.”

“As we move through Florida’s storm season, MCSO is urging everyone to stay weather aware and never underestimate the power of Mother Nature.”

People could not believe how calm the man was as the lightning struck.

“Well if I was the camera guy that phone would of been looking at the dirt and me at CVS looking for new adult diapers,” one person wrote.

“How did you not drop the phone haha. Lightening is no joke,” another person asked.

This follower loved the footage.

“Thank you for continuing to hold the camera towards the point of interest. And thank you for not constantly screaming ‘Oh my God!’”
