What began as a routine vet visit for Emily Peoples and her 3-year-old Labrador and golden retriever mix, Walsh, took an unexpected and delightful turn. Emily brought Walsh to the clinic for ear medication, a task he isn’t particularly fond of but always manages to complete with a brave face.

Walsh’s secret weapon for these visits is his “emotional support” toy, with a french fry toy being his absolute favorite. In a video posted to TikTok on July 13, Walsh clung to his toy at the start.

By the end, however, he had dropped it and taken on a new role—clinic “dogtor.”

Walsh donned a white coat, stepping up to offer a second opinion on his treatment.

“I am a vet student and Walsh borrowed my white coat for the picture!” Peoples shared.

“Me and another vet tech helped him put it on. He was bribed with peanut butter to smile for the camera.”

The second half of the video features Walsh with his front paws on the counter, beaming in his new uniform. He looked every bit the part of a professional ready to follow in his owner’s footsteps.

Peoples noted that Walsh does have his own custom-made white coat, complete with his name, although it wasn’t available for the photo.

“Walsh grew up going to work with me at the vet clinic, so he actually loves to go,” she said.

“Sometimes if he’s being extra wiggly he gets some peanut butter. He also makes sure he says hi to everyone—the receptionists, the vet techs, the kennel techs, and the doctors.”

The extra attention and his emotional support toy make the vet clinic a much more pleasant experience for Walsh, despite his dislike for ear medication.
